Days At Greygates

Greygates Nursery was established in 1954, and named because of the grey gates at the front of the house. Our large Victorian house is split in to three large classrooms and a very large garden, ensuring the children can enjoy lots of outdoor space and time.

At Greygates, we are committed to continuously invest in both our wonderful team and their training, alongside resources and refurbishments to ensure we consistently deliver a stimulating and engaging curriculum.

Bluebells “Baby” Room

Our Baby Room is home to six babies, from the ages of three months to 15 months. Cared for by two members of the Greygates team, this bright and airy room is comprised of one large play area, full of a wide variety of educational toys, books, puzzles, sensory materials and soft play to stimulate the children’s senses. Each day is filled with carefully thought out activities including sensory exploration and messy play to help support curiosity in learning and stimulating little minds.

For new children starting with us, we focus on building consistency and stability between home and nursery to ensure a smooth transition for the whole family, and a solid foundation for a wonderful relationship to begin between our family and yours. Your child will also have a Key Person who is responsible for their individual weekly planning and next steps, and is always on hand to provide advice regarding all aspects of your child’s learning and development.

Buttercups “Toddler” Room

The Toddler Room is fun, colourful and always full of laughter with up to twenty children, aged 15 months to three years, and five members of the Greygates team. In the Toddler room, we have a particular focus on allowing the children to lead their own learning using construction, role play, small world play, musical instruments and natural resources. We also introduce numbers, colours and letters to the children in a fun and engaging way. Our Toddlers also benefit from having direct access to our covered area of our beautiful garden, so we can encourage free-flow between the indoors and outdoors.

Your child’s key person will be responsible for carrying out carefully planned activities to help them further their learning, as well as build on their social and emotional development. Of primary importance is a strong partnership with parents to ensure a smooth transition, either as a new starter or in moving up from the Baby room. We know that parents are a child’s first educator, so we strive to provide you with ideas for home, alongside advice and guidance around toilet training and behaviour management.

Sunflowers “Pre-School” Room

Upstairs is our largest classroom for our pre-schoolers, home to up to twenty-four children with three members of the Greygates team. Our teachers support the children in their ever growing knowledge and curiosity to prepare them for their next adventure in school. We fulfil this by instilling confidence, independence and encouraging exploration through their play. We work alongside parents to get their child school ready by suggesting activities to help with phonics and early reading and writing, alongside developing their personal, social and emotional development.

Our Curriculum

Our diverse Curriculum is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and inspired by other philosophies
including Montessori and Forest School.

Each morning at Greygates, the children enjoy a different class to supplement their learning.
